Story of Eileen

Story of Eileen

My name is Eileen. I am 14 years old. When I was 9 years old, my grandmother sent me to the Home of Fountainhead. My parents died when I was very young, so long ago that I can hardly remember their faces. I guessed it was before I started schooling. My grandmother and I lived in a small village house. Life was hard for us at that time for my grandmother was getting old and always sick. We had very little income to support our daily living. I was too young and I couldn’t do anything of help.

One year, my grandmother was very sick and she had no alternative but sought help from the village leader. The head of the village helped us to apply a place at the Homes of Fountainhead. After assessment that I came from a poor family background, I was admitted to the girls’ home in 2009. I felt sad to leave my dear grandmother. I cried to farewell my grandmother and my birth place.

I began a new life in the Homes of Fountainhead. They found a school for me to study in Primary one. I love studying and I always have good grade at school. This Home gives me a lot of learning opportunities such as English, music (piano, guitar, and ukulele) and arts and crafts. The teachers teach us a lot of things and show great love to all the girls in this Home. Many visitors who came by to teach us and play with us. I am thankful that I can stay in this Home. It is because if I stayed in my home town, I won’t have opportunities to be in touch with the outside world. I treasured every chance to enrich myself.

Last year, I entered into a junior secondary school which is the best in town. At the term break examination, I was number 1 in the class. Of course, I was very pleased with my academic performance. Many people in the Home were proud of me. When the asked me “How can you do it?” My answer was “I do it for my grandmother.” Because I knew that it is the best way to reward my dearest grandmother and the people who support me in this Home of Fountainhead. I will try my best in studying and hope that someday I can contribute to the society.
